How Dark is Home Window Tinting?

There are many great reasons to choose home tinting for the windows in your house. Not only does it increase the home’s value, but it offers additional safety and security as a deterrent for burglars. It also protects your home’s furnishings, floors and walls.

At Solarmaster Window Film, we pride ourselves on top quality tinting products that meet your specific needs. If you’re worried about the darkness of the tinting, keep reading for more information.

Darkness Levels

In some cases, you can choose how dark you want your window tinting to be. Perhaps you want the tinting to be really dark to minimise glare inside your home. Or maybe you want something a bit lighter so that it blends well with the outside of your house.

The strength of window tinting is measured using Visible Light Transmission (VLT). This measurement considers how much light is able to penetrate a tinted film and is recorded in percentages, with higher percentages indicating more light filtration. Shades tend to range from 5% (darkest) to 70% (lightest).

Home tinting generally does not carry a VLT limit, so you are free to choose any tint available. We do, however, recommend a home window tint with a VLT of 50% or less to avoid glare impacting neighbouring properties.

Let us help you choose the exact kind of window tinting film you need for your home. We can help you get the exact depth of tint you need to suit your needs.

Impact of Tinting

You might worry that tinted windows will turn your home dark or gloomy, While it's true that the darker the tint, the more UV light you'll prevent from entering your home, and while you can certainly choose how dark you want your tint, there are advantages of using a darker tint on your residential windows.

Not only will you be afforded greater privacy, but darker tinted windows can help protect furniture from fading in the sunlight, and can allow for quality sleep for shift workers or people who work late at night.

Dark Tint From The Inside

One of the great things about our home window tinting is that it doesn’t interfere with your view out. When you’re inside your house and look out the windows, you may not even notice the tinting is there.

It’s designed to give you an unobstructed view from any window it’s applied to without being obvious to you.

Dark Tint From The Outside

When you see your tinting from the outside, you’ll notice that it’s dark enough to keep people from seeing into your house when they are passing by. This is a great way to protect your privacy without altering the overall look of the exterior of your home.

You can test just how dark the tinting is by simply going outside and trying to see in.

What To Consider

When you’re choosing the darkness of your home window tinting, there are some other things to keep in mind as well.

Window tinting can offer quite a bit of protection for your home – it prevents the glass from shattering upon impact, keeping your home safe and secure. It can also keep the sun from fading your upholstery, art, floors and decor.

The point here is that when you choose tinting, there are more things to consider than just the darkness of the product. Window tinting has benefits you might not have previously considered.
